Sun and Epiphany
We remember God's light being revealed to the world
On 6 January we began the season of Epiphany, when we remember the light of Christ being revealed to the peoples of the world. At about the same time, in the area where I live, we also began the hottest, driest season of the year, when the sun is at it’s brightest. Often it has felt like the church’s calendar is at odds with the local seasons, but at this time it feels pretty easy to make the connections, even though those connections are different to the connections made by Christians in Europe and North America.
I’m also aware that the sun is bringing fires to many parts of the land, and regional churches have asked us to pray for them as they face fires and care for their neighbours. I hope we can see and recognise what is happening in the land and the heavens, and what we need to do to care for our home.
